My Very Own Olive Farm in La Dolce Vita
When I decided on buying a property or two in Puglia, one requirement was to have substantial olive producing trees. When I found my trulli with more than 30 gorgeous olive trees, I knew that was it! My Italian home away from home was immediately dubbed ‘Trullo Zeytoon (Persian for olive)’. This month I have harvested roughly 800kg of olives, producing 150 liters of the most delectable olive oil I have ever tasted.
Besides the olive harvest, my days in Puglia take me on daytrips to the dreamy Alberobello (UNESCO World Heritage site); the Baroque Salento region with its fairytale towns, crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches; visiting my neighbor’s vineyard and stealing his grapes (just kidding, he gave me a crate full); eating creamy buttery mozzarella known as burrata made fresh daily; dipping my toes in the gorgeous Adriatic and Ionian seas and topping off the day with fabulous local wines and a plate of spaghetti con vongole.
Despite my limited Italian (working on it) communicating with many people I meet, my neighbors, the shopkeepers, they all try their best to make me feel understood and welcomed. Puglians are truly warm and wonderful people!
Btw, this month the temperatures have been between 17-20 degrees with days full of sunshine.
